Thank you to all parents and students who attended our Duke Energy Science Night! Thank you as well to Mrs. Ashley Ellis for organizing this fun-filled event.
Announcements:
1. The ADES PBIS programs’ Easter egg challenge is in full swing! The eggs will be available for purchase during lunch for $1.00. Students will decorate the easter egg and post them on the classroom door! The class with the most easter eggs purchased will receive a party of their choice. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help to provide incentives for positive behavior events. Current leaders are Ms. Dew is in 1st place with 116 sold. Ms. Fairfax is in 2nd place with 76 sold. Ms. Santos is in 3rd place with 65 sold.
2. ADES will hold its Annual Career Fair for students on April 17th. We will have many different careers for students to explore and are excited for a fantastic day!
3. The AIG Showcase will be at East Columbus JR/SR High School on April 15th from 6:00-7:00 PM. We invite everyone to celebrate all 3rd through 6th grade students STEAM projects which will be displayed for everyone to view.
4. All 6th grade students received vaccine forms last week! This information is to prepare students for transition to East Columbus JR/SR High School. Students are required to have certain vaccinations prior to the start of 7th grade and CCS schools is offering a clinic to assist with this process. If you would like for your 6th grade student to participate in this opportunity, please complete the form that was sent home and return to school to your homeroom teacher by Tuesday, April 15th!
5. Attendance is important at ADES for our students! Remember we are striving to achieve a 95-96 % attendance rate weekly. Please remember that students learn best when in school with their teacher and teacher assistants.
6. Please remember that our school day starts promptly at 7:45 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. We ask that all students attend school regularly and to arrive on time as well as stay the entire instructional day!
7. Parents just a reminder that transportation changes must be in written form and submitted before 2:00 PM daily. We do not accept phone call or text message changes.

Tomorrow, April 10th we have two wonderful events for students and parents to participate in at ADES.
First, we are hosting Duke Energy Science Night from 5:30 PM -7:00 PM in the Gymnasium. We invite all students and parents to attend this fun filled learning experience. Families' will be able to participate in science experiments and see instant results. What a great way to enjoy learning science concepts.
Our second opportunity is for our students, parents, and community members to have their voice heard by providing ideas for naming the new East end Prek -8 School! We invite everyone to stop by the cafeteria after you have completed science night to take a short survey and provide suggested name ideas for our new school! This is a historical time for our communities we serve and we would like for all voices to be heard! The time for this event is from 5:30-7PM in the cafeteria at ADES! Please come by and share your ideas for naming our new school!

4. Parents we are thrilled to engage the community in choosing a mascot and colors for the new PK-8 school being built on the eastern side of Columbus County! Visit the school’s website or Facebook page to view the options and cast your vote for your favorites by April 7th. This will be the last day that the survey will be open!
5. All Parents and Students are invited to attend Duke Energy Science Night at ADES on April 10th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM to participate and learn exciting science standards as well as fun experiments! All learning activities and experiments will be held in the gymnasium. Also, on this same evening students, parents, and community members are invited to come by the cafeteria at ADES to share ideas for naming the new East End PreK-8 school! We will have computers set up with a brief form for you to complete and submit with your ideas! Columbus County Health Department will be visiting Columbus County Schools to offer Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) and Meningococcal vaccines to rising 7th and 12th graders. This is an excellent opportunity for students to receive their state required vaccines. If you are interested in your child receiving these vaccines while at school, please complete the paperwork and sign the consent that will be sent home April 3rd. All forms will need to be turned in to your child’s school by April 17th.
Vaccines Information Sheets will be provided. Please reach out to your child’s school nurse or the pediatric nurses at Columbus County Health Department, if you have any questions or concerns.

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is a special day dedicated to those who work in a classroom supporting students to ensure educational success. In the school sector, paraprofessional educators are also known as Behavior Support Specialists, ISS & Alternative Learning Facilitators, Teacher Assistants, and Paraeductors. These fantastic people deliver targeted support to students who may need extra help and work to maintain the classroom, keeping it running smoothly. Paraprofessionals are the unsung heroes of the education system - without their strong foundation, teachers frequently report feeling overwhelmed and overworked. Paraprofessionals help shoulder the workload and allow teachers to focus on what they do best - teach! Paraprofessional Appreciation Day seeks to bring these professionals to the forefront and show them a little extra love for all the incredible work they do, day in and day out.

1. Parents on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1st and 2nd students in grades 3-6 will take the NC Check -Ins #3 for Reading and Math. We ask that all students arrive on time for testing on these days. Students who are testing should have a full 8 hours of sleep the night before testing and have a good breakfast the morning of testing. If students arrive late to school, then they may have to test on another day since testing will begin at 8:00 AM.
2. The ADES Beta Club will be collecting items for Premier Living Nursing home in Lake Waccamaw through April 3rd. We are collecting items that patients might like and need such as adult coloring books, crayons, markers, individually wrapped snacks and personal care items. Students in the beta club will deliver these items to the nursing home on April 4th.

1. Thank you to all parents, guardians, and students who purchased items from the bookfair last week! We are excited to expand our library with additional books in the future. A very special thank you to Ms. Ward for organizing the bookfair for our students and their families’!
2. Congratulations to all ADES students who had artwork on display at Celebrate the Arts this past weekend! The Artwork was beautiful and showcased the talent of ADES. Thank you to Ms. Allison Ellis Art teacher at ADES for fostering a love of the visual arts in our students!
3. Congratulations to all the Kings and Queens of ADES who were recognized at the PTSO Spring Fling dance! We will have pictures available on the ADES Facebook page soon! Thank you to the PTSO for organizing this fun event!
4. The Spring Beta Club Induction Ceremony will be on Wednesday, 03/26/2025 at 9:00 AM. We invite all parents and guardians of the inductees to attend. There will be a short reception following the program for students who were inducted and their parents/guardians.

2. Scholastic Bookfair is this week, March 17th through March 21st, for all ADES students! Monday and Tuesday will be previewing days for our students and Wednesday through Friday will be student purchase days! We also have two nights for parents to accompany students to purchase books as well which are the following: Tuesday, March 18th 3:30 – 6:30 and Thursday, March 20th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. We accept cash, credit/debit cards, and checks payable to ADES.
3. We would like to thank our guest readers this week for Read Across America:

4. On Thursday, March 20th, the ADES PTSO will have the King & Queen Spring Fling Dance from 5:30 -7:30 PM. The cost is $8.00 for admission and will include a slice of pizza and a drink. There will be extra snacks for purchase. The crowning ceremony will be at 7:15 PM.
5. All ADES students and parents are invited to view artwork created by the students of ADES on display at the Columbus County Arts Council. This is a celebration of a joint project with the students of ADES and the Cameron Art Museum. Students’ artwork will be on display through March 20th! Please come by and see our student’s beautiful artwork! The Arts Council is located at 822 Madison Street in Whiteville.

Celebrate the Arts, North Carolina's Largest Student Arts Festival, will take place on Saturday, March 22nd from 4:30 PM-9:30 PM at South Columbus High School. The event is a partnership between Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools, and features performances and artwork from over 1000 students. Admission is free.

Thank you to all our new Kindergarten parents and students who came by to register for the 2025-2026 school year! We hope that you enjoyed the activities and meeting our teachers and teacher assistants.
1. Monday, March 10th will be parent conference day for CCS. While school is closed for students, we invite our students to accompany their parents/guardians to conference day to share their achievement data and be a part of the conversation with teachers. Conferences will be held from 11:30 -7:00 PM. Please contact your child’s teacher to set a conference appointment via the Remind app or call the school. Parents and students will also be able to see a sneak preview of the planetarium located in our gymnasium and the programs students will be able to see the week of March 11th – 14th.
2. May 14th we will have our PBIS incentive for students with positive behavior! Students must earn 10 Bobcat tickets to participate and have no office referrals. This incentive will include extra recess time and a snack.
3. Students will receive information for Read Across America week on Tuesday to plan for events daily the week of March 17th through March 21st! Students will also receive a flyer for our Scholastic Book Fair which occurs this same week! Parents may preview all items online prior to the start of Read Across America Week.
